We Were Told Roosters Were Mean… Not That Hens Steal Your Heart

When COVID shut everything down and egg prices started climbing, we decided to look into starting a small backyard flock—mainly for fresh eggs.

We’re city people through and through, and at the time, we knew absolutely nothing about chickens. The only thing I’d ever heard came from my mom, who grew up on a small farm—her main memory was having to run past mean roosters so she wouldn’t get pecked. Not exactly encouraging.

Still, we were curious. After talking with a friend who kept a few chickens and doing a lot of late-night research, we took the leap and brought home four tiny chicks.

Like most beginners, we quickly realized how much there was to learn. Reading about all the possible illnesses and challenges was overwhelming at times—but we stuck with it. And little by little, those four chicks grew into beautiful hens who began providing us with fresh eggs… and something we didn’t expect.

They became family.

What started as a practical decision turned into something much more. We discovered that chickens are smart, funny, full of personality, and—believe it or not—affectionate. Each one has her own quirks, her own attitude… her own diva moments.

Since those early days, our flock has grown. We’ve hatched chicks, expanded our coop, and experienced both the joy and the heartbreak that comes with caring for animals. Through it all, our love for these birds has only deepened.

Little Deuce Coop was born out of that journey.

We create products for people who, like us, have come to see their chickens as more than livestock. They’re part of the family—and they deserve to be cared for that way!

We hope you and your divas enjoy and benefit from our Diva products! Drop us an email and tell us more about your feathered family! We also love pictures and feature our customer's Divas on our website and social media from time to time.
